Serve-A-Thon May 2021
FUNDRAISING DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 24!
HELP US RAISE AN ADDITIONAL $25,000 TO PURCHASE A MUCH NEEDED TRANSIT VAN!
Serve-A-Thon is FINALLY here! While many activities have been cancelled or delayed because of COVID we won't let it dampen our enthusiasm to serve in our community! Our theme this year is based on the verses in Mark 12:28-31 and is as relevant today as it was when Jesus answered the religious leaders of his day.
One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
Serve-A-Thon typically is held during the month of October but this year we delayed this important event due to reserstrictions from the pandemic. As restrictions have lessened, our classes have used these past few months to discover creative opportunities to serve individually, in small groups, and as a class. Our May Serve-A-Thon is a capstone celebration of the service that our students have participated in recently. Some of the ways our students have served are:
- Partnering with Assist Pregnancy by coordinating and assembling mailings and preparing baby bottles for Assist fundraising events.
- Serving with McLean Access Ministry by spending quality time with special needs children through reading, playing games, and enjoying fellowship.
- Serving IBC families and individuals who are currently in vulnerable situations by helping with small household chores and/or yard projects seasonally.
- Coordinating Food and Clothing Drives to support the most vulnerable during the holiday season.
- Encouraging and supporting local area fire departments and police officers who serve so faithfully.
- Championing seniors and military personnel during the holiday season through handwritten letters.
- Cleaning Fairfax County parks.
- Serving at the Capital Area Food Bank.
NEW this year! Some of the funds donated during Serve-A-Thon will be used to create baskets with needed resources for Assist Pregnancy Center (baby items), Central Union Mission (personal items), and the Capital Area Food Bank (cereal and peanut butter). In addition, students in K-8th grades will write a personal note expressing their appreication to those who worked tirelessly to serve others in our community. These frontline workers have been faithful throughout this difficult year and we wish to acknowledge their example. We will encourage delivery personnel, postal workers, grocery store employees, trash collection team members, restaurant personnel, and health care workers with these notes from our students and express our appreciation for their example.
We need your support! You can help us improve our community while impacting the lives of our students by supporting our efforts. Every dollar you give will be a true investment in the lives of our students and in the mission of our school. Our goal is to raise $70,000. The first $45,000 will help to provide for essential educational needs at ICS such as textbooks and teachers. The next $25,000 will help us purchase a transit van to address transportion needs for field trips and sporting events. It's a BIG goal but we know with your help and the help of countless others that we can meet, and even exceed, our goal!
Will you help us reach our goal? You can encourage our students by sponsoring them from May 3 to May 24 and help us raise our needed funds. All funds raised go to our general Partnership Fund and will benefit our programs where needed most. Immanuel Christian School is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible. From this site you can find a class, click on the "Sponsor Me" tab on the class homepage and donate to Serve-A-Thon to help each class meet the goal! Thank you for joining in partnership with us as we inspire students for purposeful lives of learning, godliness, and service.
